the original collection card box and the cards were a classic memorabilia item cherished by basketball fans worldwide. However, with the ever-evolving design trends and consumer expectations, it became evident that a fresh and modern packaging approach was necessary to revive the appeal of this iconic product.

my approach to the logo redesign was rooted in three key principles: simplicity, symbolism, and versatility. in the pursuit of modernity, i relied on simplicity in design, stripping away unnecessary details from the original logo but still preserving the original quirkiness. this change led to better scalability across various platforms and applications, ensuring the logo remained impactful on everything from social media avatars to stadium jumbotrons.

packaging.
i have went through a couple iterations of the box designs in search of the sleek yet accessible packaging.
the box had to keep around 200 cards and some of the dielines did not allow for a large number of cards. this led me to go with a wider box that could have two rows of 100 cards.

key takeaways.
this project was a great opportunity to bridge generational gaps, bringing the energy of the past into the present and fostering connections between fans of different eras.
01. connecting generations
honoring legendary players from 90s era and revisiting their stories was inspiring and I am hoping these redesigned cards evoke the same admiration in others.
02. paying homage
combining classic design elements with modern aesthetics was a personal challenge that pushed my creativity, resulting in a fusion that speaks to both my design style and the NBA era itself.
03. infusing innovation into traditions
"one on one" card redesign:
the original card contained a lot of information that was hard to see clearly. the images were also not showing the players in the best light both because of the lighting and randomness of the pictures. i wanted to create a clear hierarchy and sections to guide your eye clearly through the use of colors. additionally, using colorful images of the basketball players helps them standout and separate the eye from a lot of text.

kevin garnett’s card redesign:
the highlights side of the card not only talks about the stats but also about the players themselves. i wanted to highlight them as a well-rounded individuals through the photos and fun fact sections. the information on the original was scattered all over and it was nice playing around with the layout to bring you a clean, dynamic version of the card.
bull’s victory tour’
95-96 card redesign:
this particular card, didn’t capture the team spirit of the bulls victory tour since the picture didn’t have the whole team and the win graphic blends in with the yellow shorts.
the reimagined version showcases the team spirit, team colors and makes the event grander.




the deliverables were a newly repackaged box and the reimagined cards. the new packaging created a more memorable experience of unveiling of the card as well as the safe and sleek design to keep around. the cards are laid out in a different position compared to the previous design showcasing the cards one by one facing the user. the color palette is used to add to the modernity yet stay true to the classic as the long-lasting memorabilia.

the box has a fresh and clean look that can appeal to various generations of basketball fans.
